INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION: ACHIEVEMENTS, CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS

Ukrainian representative office of the European Arbitration Chamber made an official visit to France on March 30th  —l April 3rd 2012.
The Ukrainian delegation consisted of the EAP’s President Gennady Pampukha, the EAP’s Financial Commissioner Olga Pampukha, Chairman of the National Bar Oleg Palamarchuk and the Arbiter of EAP Galina Yanko.
Ukrainian delegation met with the leaders of the French professional association of lawyers and arbitration firms, and also visited the French Parliament, the Ministry of Defence of France.
Communicating with colleagues, discussing various topical issues of the development of the arbitration practice in international arbitration, representatives of the Ukrainian delegation expressed their readiness to continue cooperation with the French lawyers in this field.
On the 1st of April the Annual General Meeting of members of the European Arbitration Chamber took place in Paris.  It was attended by representatives of several countries.
The participants summed up the activity of the EAC during last year and identified priorities for 2012 - 2013 years.
The report of EAC was made by the President of EAC Gennady Pampukha. He described the activities of the arbitration companies, which operates under the auspices of the EAC, described his vision of the future development of international arbitration in Ukraine and other countries.
Gennady Pampukha particularly focused on the problems of the training of highly qualified lawyers among students. He, in particular, spoke about the National Competition on International Arbitration, recently held in Ukraine for the first time. He also sincerely thanked to all colleagues for the providing the opportunity of having internship for the best students, who participated in the contest.
The participants of the Meeting discussed the progress report, summarized the work of the Chamber during last year and determined priorities for this and future years. The introduction and development of advanced educational programs in the field of international arbitration were announced to become one of the main objectives of the European Arbitration Chamber.
The EAC also announced its intention to expand the boundaries of the competition on international commercial arbitration - namely, by attracting participants from Europe and the CIS. This competition will definitely encourage students to do scientific research, learn the best professional experience, increase their interest in the development of arbitration as an effective way of solving commercial disputes.
Ukrainian representative office of EAC expressed its gratitude to all members of EAC, who participated in the Annual Meeting, for the cooperation and efficient work. There is no doubt that further cooperation will continue.
